Nighthoops star signs with Capilano University

Demitiri HarrisFormer Night Hoops stand-out Demitiri Harris has committed to attend school at Capilano University and play for the Blues in the 2008/2009 season.

Dimitiri credits Night Hoops Basketball Program with contributing to his current opportunity. He states that "Night Hoops makes accessing basketball possible for urban youth where they would otherwise spend there time in a negative way. Night Hoops helps players like me growing up in the Downtown Eastside have a chance to join a team instead of a gang, a chance to run the court instead of the streets. Growing up in the lower Eastside, youth don’t have many options other than street life or gangs. Night Hoops gave me an option that will help me for the rest of my life."

Capilano is very happy to have Demitiri. “Demitiri is the premiere perimeter player in the Province coming out of high school and we are very excited that he has chosen Capilano,” commented head coach Paul Eberhardt. “He will add to our size on the perimeter and with our up-tempo style of play I would expect that he will amongst the league’s top scorers next year.”

“I am excited at the opportunities that Cap will give me and I love the way Coach Ebe runs his program. I believe it will be a great fit for me,” said Harris. Eberhardt also believes it is a great fit, “Demitri is the perfect kind of player for us. He is a long athletic wing who can flat out score and he has a great passion for the game. I am positive that he will be very successful at Capilano.” Demitiri will be enrolling in the University Transfer program.
