SFU Girls Skills Clinic PDF Print E-mail

On March 21, 2009, The SFU Women's basketball team, fresh off winning the 2008-09 CIS National Championship, provided an outstanding skills camp for the Night Hoops Girls League participants. 22 girls attended the camp and, after a quick introduction to the coaches, the girls were exposed to ball-handling skills and dribbling relays. The girls then participated in the SFU team's daily dozen workout, worked on their shooting form and defensive principles.

There was fun competition throughout the day: 2-on-2 and several shooting contests. The SFU Women finished up the camp with a goal-setting discussion and shared stories of their personal journeys that allowed them to get to where they are now. The struggles they've encountered and the hard work and determination required to overcome certain challenges were highlighted in the discussion.

The camp finished up with a delicious lunch provided by Ron Suzuki of the Strathcona Community Centre. Overall the camp was a huge success and was enjoyed by all who participated. We hope to make this a regular event for Night Hoops and are very grateful to the SFU Women's team for all their hard work and for giving back to the community. They helped the Night Hoops girls all be Champions for a day.
