Dick graduated from Simon Fraser University with a Bachelor of Science (Kinesiology) with a minor in Psychology and went on to complete his master degree in Physical Education at the University of British Columbia. In 2000, his abilities and dedication were recognized by Simon Fraser University with the 35th Anniversary Alumni Award of Distinction for Services to the University.

An accomplished leader, organizational consultant and executive for not-for-profit organizations, Dick has extensive experience in all facets of growing and leading community organizations, both professionally and as a volunteer.

From 2004, Dick has been the primary coordinator and developer of MoreSports - an award-winning community development project for children's sport, recreation and physical activity. Prior to this he served for 9 years as the Executive Director for British Columbia Rugby Union.

A small section of Dick's volunteer work includes: President of Exceleration Triathlon Club, Founder and President of the SFU Alumni Rugby Chapter, Co-chair of the Hastings Townsite Daycare Society, Member of the SFU Alumni Board during which time he was named as the SFU Volunteer of the Year.

Dick has also coached the SFU Rugby Club, the BC Women's Provincial Representative Rugby Team, the SFU Women's Rugby Team and been an assistant coach for the UBC Rugby Club and the Brittania High School Wrestling Team. He has a level III coaching certificate in Rugby, level I in Wrestling, Soccer and Basketball. He is also a level III Rugby Union Referee.
